Both keep court-ready K9 records. DogBase also reads them for you, so you see what's working and what's slipping before it shows up on a deployment.
DogBase and KATS both keep court-ready K9 training and deployment records. KATS has served police K9 units since 1992, with deep incident reporting, a keystroke audit trail, and a link into agency RMS systems. DogBase is a working dog operations platform used by police, SAR, detection, sport, and service programs in 15+ countries. It keeps the same records and adds AI training insights, a structured Health Center, automatic field conditions on every session, and a custom session type builder.
KATS is the original K9 records management system, built with police handlers and prosecutors since 1992. If your priority is incident reporting, bite ratio reports, and feeding K9 data into your agency RMS, it's built for exactly that.
DogBase is built for teams that want the record to make the dog better. Training, deployments, health, and certifications sit on one file. Conditions are captured automatically. And AI reads across every session to flag repetition, plateaus, and gaps, so supervisors see which dog or handler is slipping before it costs them on a deployment.

Reports tell you what happened. Intelligent Summaries and AI Training Recaps read across your sessions and tell you what it means: the same problem run twelve times, a skill that stalled a month ago, a gap nobody noticed. We call it breaking the Trainer's Blind.
The Health Center keeps vet visits, medications, vaccinations, nutrition, and measurements on the dog's profile as structured data. Reminders flag boosters and meds before they're overdue, and lifecycle status shows who's Active, Injured, or Retired.
GPS shows where the dog went. Conditions show why. Every DogBase session records GPS, terrain imagery, weather, temperature, wind, visibility, air quality, and sunrise and sunset automatically. When a track goes wrong, you can see the wind it ran in.
The Custom Type Builder has 30+ widgets, including working dog specific ones like Bite Loss Correction and Session Blocks. Start from ready-made libraries like K9 Deployment Log and Bite Incident Report, or build your own field by field.
The Training Assessment Framework captures three layers on every session: Objective, Observations, and Actions To Be Taken. Built in timers record duration to the second, and handler and dog ratings add a quick, consistent signal.
Every record carries version history, an edit count, and timestamps. And the training date is recorded separately from the saved time, so a session written up a month later never passes as same day.
DogBase runs police, SAR, detection, sport, service, protection, and kennel programs on the same system. One platform for a unit that trains across disciplines, or a kennel that sells dogs into all of them.
The activity feed, team and dog comparison, Drilldown Insights, and Aggregate Insights give supervisors unit-wide visibility. Groups run joint training across agencies while each keeps its own records.
DogBase was built by a SAR K9 handler who still trains and deploys with his own dog. Features ship because handlers ask for them, and when you call, you talk to the people building it. All data is hosted on Google Cloud in the United States.
Your unit is law enforcement first, you need incident reporting with suspect search and bite ratio reports, you want K9 data pushed into your agency RMS, and you value a system that's been in police K9 since 1992.
KATS prices per dog per year in volume brackets, starting at $189 per dog for small teams, with users free. DogBase Handler is $12 per active dog per month for 1 to 4 dogs. Teams of 5 to 10 dogs pay $1,800 a year with 35 users included, about the same as KATS at 10 dogs.
Every plan includes the parts that change outcomes: the Health Center, AI Intelligence, analytics, exports, and version history on every record. Retired and archived dogs are never billed, and organization plans can be paid by invoice or purchase order.
Yes. Law enforcement, military, and government K9 programs use DogBase for training, deployments, bite incident reports, certifications, and use-of-force documentation. If your unit also runs detection, tracking, or SAR, all of it lives in one system.
Yes. Every DogBase record carries version history, an edit count, and timestamps, so reviewers can see who changed what and when and view earlier versions. The training date is recorded separately from the saved time, so late entries are always visible.
KATS states that agencies own their records and can export them. Bring your export and your current forms, and we'll help rebuild your session types in DogBase and work through bringing your history across with you.
Individual handlers pay per active dog. Organization plans are one annual price for a range of dogs, with your team's users included. Retired and archived dogs don't count toward your plan.
Yes. DogBase has native iOS and Android apps, with full GPS trail mapping built in. GPS location, terrain, and weather are captured automatically on every session, in the app or the browser.

DogBase started as one handler's training log. Almog Koren trained his Belgian Malinois, Echo, from service dog to operational SAR, and kept running into the same wall: the tools for documenting K9 work were built by people who'd never run a dog.
So he built his own. An IDF special forces veteran and software engineer with 15 years building mission-critical systems, he still deploys with Echo today. Every feature in DogBase exists because a working handler needed it.
He's presented on K9 data and AI at the International Police K-9 Conference, the World Police Summit, and the NYS Technical Rescue Conference.
